Bubba Song Notes:
1. That's What You Do When You Do What You Do: There's a song by the Swinging Medallions called "Double Shot of My Baby's Love" and the writer talks about his romantic tryst with a girl and how it affected him. Her "lovin" made him turn flips, shout out loud, and finally made him pass out in her front yard. I wrote "That's What You Do" in the same mold. I especially like that, in this song, her "lovin" has him "speaking in tongues".

2. Ain't No American Idol: sure, there are some good singers on American Idol, but you would think with all their resources, the final 10 or 20 would all be great singers, and that's just not the case. I personally know a dozen amateur singers that could have easily won in almost any year except the first season (I must give props to Kelly Clarkson, like her or not, she can sing). This song is my initiation of a backlash against American Idol the TV show.

3. I'm Fixin' To: In most parts of the country you'll hear people say, "I'm preparing to..", "I'm about to....", or maybe "I'm getting ready to..." But in the South, they say "I'm Fixin' To". Never heard it in a song before, so I thought I'd use it.

4. If You Can't Shag (get your ass out of Carolina). I'm a big fan of 60's R&B and Carolina Beach music. Eddie Bailey, of the band The Fabulous Expressions and a former member of the Swinging Medallions, told me his wife taught 8th grade in Greenville, SC, and as part of the required "South Carolina State History" course, each 8th grader had to learn to "Shag" since it is the official State Dance. We were laughing about it especially when Eddie said "If you can't shag, you can't graduate from 8th grade". I thought that was funny and decided to take it a step further in this song.
5. 'Mo Better This Time: Again, just my affection for 60's Soul and R&B, I wanted to write a fun song that made you feel good, like riding around in a convertible on the first day of spring. There's a company that sells a million varieties of hot sauce named "Mo Hotta, Mo Betta", so I ripped them off a little.
6. The Jody Grind: When soldiers are marching or running long distances in formation, the Drill Sergeants help keep their minds occupied by singing songs. Often the Drill Sergeant sings a line and the formation answers back. One of the most popular subjects is to sing about Jody. Jody's the guy back home who is hitting on your girlfriend, driving your Cadillac, took your old job, considered to be a weasel, and intentionally avoided serving his country in the Armed Forces. I'm a patriot and very proud of all those who serve or have served.

7. Let My People Dance: The idea came from Moses in the Ten Commandments, "Let My People Go".

8. When They Open Up the Pearly Gates: If you want to hear some great music, next time you're driving around in the South on a Sunday morning, turn your radio to a gospel station. I love that hand clapping, foot stomping, hair raising music and decided to contribute.

9. Let The Eagle Fly: Most college football games have great pre-game programs pumping up the crowds. Auburn University is no exception. Even though they are the Auburn Tigers, their battle cry is "War Eagle" (long story, not enough space). And, prior to the start of each home game, a trained Eagle is released who flies around the stadium several times and then dive-bombs toward the school logo on the 50 yard line. This song will only be significant to Auburn fans.

10. Didn't We Love: This song was written by a songwriter, Danny Orton, and I'm a big fan so I decided to cover it.

11. My Baby's A Seafood Platter: Folks that vacation along the gulf coast know of an infamous club, the Florabama, which is located right on the Florida/Alabama state line. One of the extraordinarily talented singer/songwriter/entertainers that regularly performed there was Rusty McHugh, and Seafood Platter was one of my favorites written by Rusty.

12. Happy Hour: I was in a country mood one day and accidentally wrote this song. I love the story, but I especially like the symmetry of the song i.e. "happy hour.our happiness". If George Jones calls me, and asks real nice, I might let him cover it.
